The Museum of the Town of Umag is located in the medieval tower known as the Bishop's Tower. It is dated to the end of the 13th and the early 14th cc. It was a part of the fortification system.
The Bishop's Tower
The historic core of Umag is preserved by several Gothic houses, distyles and coats of arms, the southern part of the fortress wall and the 14th century defensive tower, today a town museum.
The area surrounding Umag is teeming with the remains of Roman villas. In the 9th century Umag fell under Frankish rule and was destroyed by the Croatian prince Domagoj. On the main town square, alongside the monumental church (1760) with its unfinished façade, there is also the 17th century bell tower and public waterworks. In the Old Town we find many Gothic houses, distyles and coats of arms, the southern part of the fortress wall and the 14th century defensive tower, which today houses the town museum.
