Grožnjan-Grisignana

Grožnjan became an important defence centre under the Venetian rule. A part of its fortifications have been preserved until today.

Grožnjan is a centre of culture, situated high on a hilltop. It is a town of artists, positive vibrations, numerous galleries and studios. In the mid 14th century it fell under the Venetian rule. Venice fortified the town walls and made Grožnjan a defence centre. A part of the fortifications has survived to this day, as have the town gates from the late 15th century, the Renaissance loggia and the Chapel of St. Cosmo and Damian from 1554. The somewhat younger parish church has a lavish Baroque interior.
